The Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge

Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge

The Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge
Created almost thirty years back, the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge is positioned in the eastern interior region of Alaska. The Yukon flats geographically fall into the wetland basin and these have many pools, lakes and other rivers that flow through this area. The summers here are hotter with the mercury levels rising to almost a hundred degrees Fahrenheit while the winters are cooler and can drop to an unimaginable minus seventy degrees Fahrenheit. Even the daylight here undergoes this extreme type of climate and this is one reason where the vegetation is sparse.

The Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge
Due to the climatic changes, we see that there are a mixed type of forests here and the main tress that are found in surplus in Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge are aspen, spruce and birch. There are a lot of fur animals that are found here – as these have the ability to withstand the extreme cold that this area is subjected to and these include beavers, river otter, musk rats, mink and lynx to name a few. Bears, wolves and sheep are also found in the refuge.

The Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge

While most birds including ducks come to the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge for the summer, they leave before the onset of the killing winter. There are certain birds like the three toed woodpeckers, ravens and grey owls that live all around in the refuge. The population here thrives on the meat of these animals and birds as that is their only means of food.

Basic Guidelines -
Please enter the Park only after taking the necessary permits and follow all the rules.
Drive slowly in the Park. In this way you can see, observe and enjoy the most, without disturbing the wildlife.
Respect the wild animals and maintain a safe distance from them. Remember, you are in their home and they get first priority.
Switch off your car stereo or transistor. The quieter you are, the more the chances of your seeing wildlife.
Wear dull-coloured clothes. Bright colours alarm most wild animals and they flee.
Don’t carry guns or other weapons. Feel free to shoot with a camera instead.
Do not smoke or light campfires in the forest. Accidental fires can destroy this wonderful jungle in no time.
Don’t get off your vehicle at any point in the Park except where it’s allowed. This is for your own safety and the safety of wildlife.
Help keep the park pollution-free. While inside the park, please put your entire non-biodegradable litter (tin cans, plastic, glass bottles, metal foils etc.) into the bag provided and dispose of it on your way out.
Keep to the specified roads and trails. Driving off track you may trample growing trees and cause disturbance to resting animals and their youngs.

Block Island, Rhode Island

Block Island, Rhode IslandCrescent Beach, near Old Harbor
Block Island, the genial and wonderfully pristine land mass off the coast of Rhode Island, has been a wonderful spot for a low-keyed yet sophisticated beach vacation for generations. There's virtually no gay following here, even compared with the relatively mainstream Martha's Vineyard, but this is a progressive, liberal-minded community that's very welcoming toward gay and lesbian visitors nonetheless - perfect if you're seeking peace and quiet, stunning maritime vistas, and secluded beaches (this photo depicts Crescent Beach, which is fringed by Corn Neck Rd., just north of Old Harbor's clutch of shops and restaurants as well as the main ferry terminal). For tourist information on the island, visit the Block Island Chamber of Commerce website. Block Island is an easy day-trip, by ferry, from such gay-popular Rhode Island cities as Providence and Newport, and it's prime tourism season is May through October (with July and August the busiest). If you do make it out for the day, be sure to drop by Eli's (on Chapel St., 401-466-5230, a fantastic restaurant serving creative contemporary American chow.

Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve Beauty

Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve Beauty

The Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve is the place you would want to be in if you are romanticized by the water around you. In The Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve in East Central Alaska you can see a lot of wonderful sites from the magnificent falcons to the place where the gold rush happened a very long time ago.
The beauty of this place is that you need to traverse by either of these rivers as there are no roads to take you anywhere.

Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve Beauty

If you need to go somewhere then you either have to take a boat on the Charley River or take a kayak and paddle down the Yukon – the water is the only form of transportation here.

The places you must visit while you are at the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve will include the most celebrated road houses at the park, the mining cabins that were once used to mine coal and gold and the one and only Coal Creek Dredge. Incidentally this is the only place that you can find such beautiful peregrine falcons as this is the largest of their nesting habitats in the entire North American region.

Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve Beauty

The Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve has about six public use cabins and you can reach them if you get in through the Yukon, and you have to spend a night in one of these for an incredible experience. If you are new and would require more information, no worries, all you need to do is ask at the visitor center in Eagle.

Ocean Drive by Palace Restauarant & Bar

Ocean Drive by Palace Restauarant & Bar
Miami Beach has a pair of gay beaches, one of them a good-ways up north at 10800 Collins Avenue, called Haulover Beach, which is a haul from South Beach but popular because you're allowed to tan in the buff here. The other, with a much more central location for South Beach visitors, is the 12th Street Beach, which is just off Ocean Drive, across the street from the Palace Restaurant and Bar and beyond the grassy landscaped area. Nudity is not permitted here, but that doesn't stop the many sexy sunbathers here from wearing the skimpiest possible swimsuits and g-strings.

The photo here actually looks north from a point slightly north of the main gay beach area (it was taken from up around 14th Street and Ocean Drive), but this gives a good idea of just how lovely the sand is at the South Beach gay section - a broad, beautiful, sugary-white expanse of sand fronting the lovely Atlantic surf.
